World Is Changing Quickly

This one just goes under the heading of World Is Changing Quickly. One of our arch enemies, Iran, could soon become one of our closer allies. This is somewhat funny given that we are currently in negotiations with them to stop their attempts to create a nuclear weapon but it is no joke. Given our shared interests against Al Qaeda, we have much in common with respects to our interests in Syria, Lebanon and Iraq, not to mention Pakistan and Afghanistan. Assuming we can get past the nuclear issue, a huge assumption, this could really happen. Back to the nuclear issue, it is really muddled. While we say there is a 6 month window to complete an agreement, we have left the door open to extend that. When Congress wanted to come forward with additional sanctions if the negotiations were not successful to keep up the pressure on the Iranians the President vowed to veto them. Anything short of them giving up everything is going to be hard to verify. Personally I think it has to be all or nothing on this issue. While these are tough decisions that need to be made, they must be made now since we are at a point of no return. We will see what will happen soon enough and I hope for the best as always.

What is crazy about this budding new relationship is that is has the potential to reshape everything in the Middle East. Our long standing allies, Israel and Saudi Arabia are already beyond frustrated with these Iranian flirtations and have made moves to go even further in the opposite direction. Saudi Arabia's multi billion dollar gift to the Lebanese is a thinly veiled counter to the Hezbollah movement there. The area is imploding with civil war a religious tensions that are spinning out of control. It is going to be interesting to see what happens here, and it will all unfold fully as soon as the nuclear issue is decided. If it is truly decided at all. A scary time, the most in our history with respect to the region, and with the potential for another world war. That would really screw up the economy and instantly send oil prices skyrocketing, something would greatly benefit Russia and Iran.
