Florida Senate, House bills may increase minimum wage for all employees

I am going to go crazy today and do 2 of the one blog on 2 articles today! I am not sure why, it just seems like the articles of the day today really fit well together. Plus I get more info out there this way. Fighting poverty is really coming back in vogue these days. The fact that we now have both parties (Democrats and Republicans) trying to one up each other on this issue is very exciting! Despite their political motivations, good will come from this. The fact that both have acknowledged that there is a problem to begin with is a major step forward. Now there will be endless discussions on how much money to allocate and to whom it should go but let’s not let the details bring down this good news. It will be interesting to see what concrete steps will be taken once all the ideas have been collected and debated. It seems like this is one issue that should be easy to fight. I have read a statistic that Americans throw away like half of their food. It is so crazy when you have hungry people all over. People smarter than me should be able to figure this poverty out somehow. Which brings us to the next article. I found this one fascinating. It is about a guy named Bob Freniere who is 59, was in the military for 30 years, has 3 graduate degrees, worked in the Pentagon and now lives out of his van. It is an unbelievable story and well worth reading. All he has is his $40,000 pension and he has 2 kids he is trying to put through college. He can’t find a job despite looking for virtually any position, he is willing to do whatever work he can get. The most amazing thing is that at the end of the article he is telling the reporter he is grateful for what he has. I really hope that the newfound publicity will end up in a job for this guy, which is all he wants. When you read something like this you can actually imagine that one day the politicians might really come up with something that makes the poverty issue go away. While jobs are the most important, we need to figure out a way to make sure that everyone that needs food is getting it instead of throwing it away. If only it were so simple.
