PORT MIAMI LOOKING GOOD IN EXPANSION BET

PORT MIAMI LOOKING GOOD IN EXPANSION BET

With my newfound port fascination, there was no way I was letting this article get away. It is very well written and spells things out very clearly. Here is the deal in a nutshell. The expansion of the Panama Canal is almost 80% complete. When it is complete, larger ships with more cargo, etc. need places to port and those places must be deep enough to accommodate these big ships. In Florida, there is only Jacksonville and Port Everglades that want to get this new traffic but they do not have the necessary infrastructure in place yet. But PortMiami will and they are the closest major port to the Panama Canal. The rewards could be huge, which would make everyone forget about the large investments that were needed to get here. Port Everglades was the top container port in Florida last year but they haven’t even begun to deepen their channel yet, putting them way behind Miami. Ports from around the Eastern seaboard are competing with each other to modernize, deepen their channels and handle the new traffic coming from the South. As usual, the only real competitor in the area comes from Georgia, from the port in Savannah. It has been the 2nd largest container port on the East Coast and has a vast network of rail lines nearby to easily transport goods. It is unknown where they are in their quest to deepen their channel, which they are trying to do. This new era of being a major transportation port is almost upon us. I think it will significantly boost the economy and will even further our substantial business dealings with South America. It is very exciting and I think that Florida is well prepared to take advantage of this new nautical world. Stay tuned, there will be plenty more to come on this. As always thanks for reading and have a great day.

Miami is betting big that expansion of Panama Canal will bring in megaships
